FORT COVINGTON -- Two men from New Jersey were charged with felony possession of marijuana after more than 40 pounds of the plant was allegedly found when U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped them on state Route 37.
State police arrested 39-year-old Carl O. Mottley from Englewood, New Jersey, and 30-year-old Terrence J. Atkins of Hackensack, New Jersey Sunday evening. St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police assisted in the investigation.
Both men were charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana after they were found in possession of approximately 44 pounds of pot, police said.
Mottley was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, for alleged possession of Adderall pills, for which he did not have a prescription.
Mottley and Atkins were arraigned in the Bombay Town Court and sent to Franklin County Jail, Malone in lieu of $15,000 cash bail, or $30,000 bond, each.
They are both to reappear in court on Oct. 28.
