More than 40 apprenticeships being offered in St. Lawrence County area by department of labor

There are more than 40 apprenticeships in a wide variety of trades for which St. Lawrence County residents can apply, according to recent announcements by the Department of Labor.

There are specific requirements for each apprenticeship. For more information, contact the number listed or call the nearest Department of Labor office.

Ironworkers

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Ironworkers, Local Union #440, (District II - Utica), will conduct a recruitment through March 1, 2019 for five ironworker (outside) apprentices.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #440, 10 Main St, Suite 100, Whitesboro, NY on Tuesday and Wednesday between of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and every third Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications are also available Monday through Friday by calling the Union Hall at (315) 735-4531 or by visiting the Working Solutions One-Stop Career Center at 207 Genesee Street, 2nd Floor, Utica, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours. All applications must be received no later than March 8, 2019.

Plumbers & Steamfitters, Heating, ventilation & Air Conditioning Mechanics

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local Union #73, will recruit through February 4, 2019 for 10 plumber and steamfitter apprentices and five heating, ventilation, and air conditioning mechanic apprentices.

Applications will be available at the following Local #73 offices and times, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period at 33 1/2 Depot St., Gouverneur – the last Monday of every month from noon to 6:00 p.m.

Electricians

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Electricians, Local Union #910, will recruit from April 2, through March 4, 2019 for 12 electrician apprentices.

Applications must be completed in person at Local Union #910, 25001 Water Street, Watertown, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at 28 New York Road, Plattsburgh, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the first Monday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. If a legal holiday falls on the first Monday of the month, applications will be accepted on the second Monday. Applicants must bring a current resume at the time of application. Applications may also be obtained online at http://ibew910.org/ejatc/. All applications must be submitted no later than March 4, 2019.

Applicants must have a high school diploma, a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED), or a two-year associate degree. Applicants must have successfully completed two full years of high school math, one of which must be algebra or a post-high school algebra course. Upon acceptance, a letter of verification will need to be mailed directly from your school to Local Union #910 (no hand delivered documents will be accepted).

Boilermakers

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Boilermakers Northeast Area, Local Union #175, will conduct a recruitment from April 3, 2018 through March 5, 2019 for five boilermaker (construction) apprentices.

Applications can be obtained from Local Union #175 Lodge, 131 West 2nd St., Oswego from 9 a.m. to noon on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. If the first Tuesday of the month is a holiday, applications will be available on the first Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Structural Steel and Bridges Painter/Decorators

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany will recruit from April 25, 2018 through April 17, 2019 for five painter and decorator (structural steel and bridges) apprentices.

Applications can be obtained and submitted, in person only, at The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany Training Center, 191 Broadway, Menands every Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to noon, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

Ironworkers

The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Ironworkers Local Union #60 will recruit from April 30, 2018 through April 26, 2019 for 10 ironworker (outside) apprentices

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #60, 500 West Genesee Street, Syracuse from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications may also be obtained at www.ironworkers60.org. All applications must be received no later than May 3, 2019. Applicants will be given a basic math and detail accuracy assessment test during the interview process.

The application must be completed in its entirety and submitted with two letters of recommendation from employers. Recent graduates may submit letters of recommendation from teachers or school officials.
