OSWEGATCHIE -- More than 25 firefighters from four area departments participated in a controlled burn exercise off Route 68 on Sunday.
Heuvelton Fire Chief Nick Friot said the firefighters came from his department, along with Lisbon, Rensselaer Falls and Morristown.
He said nearby Blevins RV/MotorsportSport bought the residence on state Route 68 that was used for the burn, and had been empty for years. They had permission from the town and complied with all state rules for a controlled burn, Friot said.
“It was a good training event, giving us ability to train for fire suppression in rural areas … in colder weather,” Friot said.
He said Heuvelton FD left a truck there throughout the day to prevent passers-by from calling 911.
