MASSENA -- More than $21,000 worth of items will be up for bid during the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 27th Radiothon.

The foundation hosts the event yearly on 1340 WMSA-am to raise money for MMH. The Radiothon will be Friday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year, they will donate the proceeds toward a cardiac monitoring unit that will allow the nurses’ station to monitor patients’ heart activity.

“The other good thing about this project is the hospital currently has 14 beds that can have cardiac monitoring,” MMHF Event Coordinator Julianne Fowler said. “With this new project we will have 22 beds with that capability.”

She said last year’s event raised a little over $36,000.

“I’m going to hope we’re close to last year’s total,” Fowler said. “The piece of equipment we’re trying to purchase this year is one big system.”

There are several dozens items on which people can call and bid. Winners will be notified by phone of when and how they can pick it up.

There are six boards where the items will be auctioned for one hour per board starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m., with a break at noon.

There is an “all day” board, which features larger items. People can bid there all day with the items officially auctioned at 3 p.m., Fowler said.

They include St. Lawrence University men’s and women’s season hockey tickets, a stainless steel microwave, a signature portrait collection for senior portraits, a half-page ad in North Country This Week, a 10-karat white gold, diamond and simulated emerald ring, four laser hair removal treatments, a fancy framed fruit urn print measuring 37 inches by 45 inches, 13-week news or weather sponsorship or three-hour live remote on WMSA, a spousal will package, a GPS watch, a home wireless security package, a gift bag with a hair straightener and products and gift certificate to Hairitage House, a two-night stay in the king suite or double queen room at the Akwesasne Comfort Inn, 13-week news or weather sponsorship on 101.5 or 96.1 FM, a 10-karat white gold and black diamond pendant, two Massena-Boston roundtrip tickets, a $300 gift card toward facial and laser treatments or Niawen products, a red Droid mini with car charger, a one-night stay for two with two rounds of golf, cart and lunch per person at the Thousand Islands Country Club, a washing machine and a camping package with an eight-person tent, screenhouse, grill and other items.
