More than 2,000 people were without power at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to National Grid’s power outage map.
The company's map says an outage in the Harrisville area affecting more than 1,000 people could be resolved by 5:45 p.m. They also report having crews on outages in Fine and Colton that are affecting several hundred of their customers, which they anticipate will wrap up between 7 and 8 p.m.
Power outages are being reported in Gouverneur, Lisbon, Norwood, Star Lake, Colton, Canton, Edwards, Potsdam, Heuvelton, Louisville and other towns throughout St. Lawrence County as stong winds continue to pummel the area.
Several reports of trees down on roadways and downed powerlines have been reported.
Emergency responders also received a report that part of a roof had blown off a building on Miner Street in Canton, but that report has not yet been confirmed.
A wind advisory is in effect for St. Lawrence County from until 11 p.m. with winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Gusty winds will be strongest in the afternoon before tapering off this evening, the service says.
