ANTWERP -- State police investigating the death of a 10-year-old Moira boy in an ATV accident at his uncle's property in Antwerp last night say the boy wasn't wearing a helmet.
Troopers say David A. Martin of 697 Cty. Rt. 6, Moira was operating a 2006 Polaris 4 wheel ATV on private property at 36815 CR-28 in the Town of Antwerp owned by his uncle, Luke S. Martin.
The ATV struck a wire fence, ejecting David, who was not wearing a helmet, police said. The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Antwerp fire and ambulance responded to the scene, transporting the boy to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. He was pronounced dead there at about 9:20 p.m.
Determination of the cause of death is pending an autopsy, which is scheduled for today.
State police say the investigation is continuing.
