LONG LAKE -- An overdue Adirondack High Peaks hiker from Canton was found yesterday, a little worse for wear but well enough to go home with his family.
Thursday morning at 9 a.m., the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Ray Brook dispatch was notified of an overdue hiker on the Northville-Placid Tail from Lake Placid to Long Lake, according to DEC Acting Director of Public Information Peter Constantakes.
The hiker, Larry White, had been expected to arrive in Long Lake Wednesday.
Forest rangers and state police aviation began a search of the 37-mile section of the Northville-Placid Trail and surrounding trail systems and wilderness areas.
Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday White was located just off the trail near Noah Rondeau's Hermitage.
“He appeared exhausted and dehydrated,” Constantakes said. He was given food and water, and White was escorted to an ATV and then taken out of the woods for further evaluation.
White refused medical treatment and went home with his family, Constantakes said.
