Miss New York State, who attended school in Potsdam, vies for Miss America crown this weekend

Kaitlin Monte, a 2006 alumna of Clarkson University’s Clarkson School and a New York City-based actress now serving as Miss New York 2011, will represent New York State in the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas tonight.

The broadcast will be shown live in the Forum of Clarkson’s Student Center at 9 p.m. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community are invited to attend.

After completing her year at the Clarkson School, Kaitlin transferred to the University of Tampa, where she graduated at age 19 with a bachelor’s degree in performing arts and a concentration in public relations and consumer psychology.

As Miss New York, Kaitlin advocates an anti-bullying platform through school and community seminars and corporate partnerships.

As an advocate for safe and supportive academic, social, and professional environments, Kaitlin has traveled the state to speak with audiences about the dangers of bullying, abuse, and harassment. She has partnered with leading internet safety expert Parry Aftab and is an Honorary Member and advocate for the Teen Angels program. Other programs she works with include The Ophelia Project, The Bully Project. Kaitlin is partnered with New York State Senator Jeffery Klein to push updates to cyber-bully legislation in Albany, helping launch the first-ever New York Cyberbully Census.

In addition to her work to end bullying, Kaitlin is executive director for the non-profit IMPACT which places top students and young professionals on boards and committees for schools and non-profits and provides entrepreneurial guidance. IMPACT is a branch of Project Empower for which Kaitlin serves as Co-Head of Communications.

Kaitlin acts as a goodwill ambassador and supporter for a number of organizations such as YAI Networks, Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, and Achilles International. Through a special partnership with the Miss America Organization, Kaitlin serves as an ambassador for all nine of New York's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
