BOMBAY -- A Canadian farming company is teaming with Akwesasne, Ont.-based consultants to possibly grow medical marijuana in Bombay, .

Affinor Growers LLC, based in Montreal, released a statement on Wednesday saying they signed a letter of intent to with North Country Solutions LLC and Iroquois Consulting Group LLC to seek a state medical marijuana license.

Affinor Growers spokesperson Nick Brusatore is out of the country and was not immediately available for comment.

New York in 18 months will allow medical marijuana on a very tight basis under the Compassionate Care Act. They will license five growers which can each operate four dispensaries. Growing must be done indoors in a secured facility. Patients will not be able to receive the plant or its concentrates unless they are diagnosed with what the law defines as a serious illness, such as cancer, AIDS or epilepsy.

Affinor's website says they want to break into the burgeoning medical pot business.

"Affinor Growers is focused on mass producing, high quality, in-demand produce and pharmacy grade plants for global distribution," their website says. "The team is currently working towards becoming a grower of premier medical marihuana and set to produce other major cash crops such as romaine lettuce and strawberries while waiting for Health Canada licenses and approvals."
