LISBON – Former St. Lawrence County Treasurer Robert McNeil has earned a spot on the Lisbon Town Council after receiving 361 write-in votes.

St. Lawrence County Board of Elections officials said a total of 386 write-ins were received, but McNeil's lead puts him well above Ruth C. Green of the Little Brown Church Party who earned 156 votes.

The results are not official.

A second open seat on the council will go to Gary Jarvis who received 607 votes.

Elections officials report 57 absentee ballots had been issued, but that is not enough to change the outcome of any of the races.

McNeil has served on the town council as town supervisor in the past and was formerly the chairman of the Local Government Task Force, which was created to work with the New York Power Authority to establish an agreement that would compensate the river communities that were affected by the St. Lawrence FDR Power project.

He is now the chairman of the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency, an economic development agency he helped create as a member of the task force.
