MASSENA -- A "mayday" call on the St. Lawrence Seaway Sunday night had rescuers searching for hours, but no ship in distress or casualties were found.

Massena Rescue was dispatched to the reported ship in distress.

Massena Rescue's Dive Team deployed their rescue boat into the water and began search and rescue operations at the last known coordinates of the vessel.

Debris was found, but no vessel, according to Randy Montour of the Massena Rescue Squad.

Ogdensburg Rescue sent their Dive Team to help in the search. The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection also sent vessels to assist in locating survivors.

The New York State Police sent in a helicopter equipped with an infrared camera. It searched the river from Ogdensburg to Massena for signs of survivors.

After an extensive search of the Saint Lawrence Seaway that lasted several hours the SAR operation was called off with no causalities found.
