AKWESASNE, NY - With temperatures during the day and into the mid evening reaching the low 90's it was by far the hottest night of the year at MIR. Empire Super Sprints and Go Nuclear Late Models were back on the card and with a smooth tacky surface it provided some great racing all night long.

The Empire Super Sprints were making their return to Mohawk after a rain out in June they were all ready for battle. Paul Kinney and Jeff Cook led the field to the green flag with cook grabbing the early lead. The yellow would come out quickly as Patrick Vigneault hit a tire in turn 2 ending his night early. Green would come back out and Kinney would grab the top spot in turn 1 from Cook. On the completion of lap 1 Paul Pekkonen got upside down going into turn 3. On the next restart Kory Gurney would experience the same problem in turn 1. Both drivers would walk away uninjured. On the next restart Jeff Cook would grab the top spot with Paul Kinney, Kevin Ward Jr., Michael Parent and Tommy Wickham. Cook Kinney and Ward would stage a great battle for the lead with Kinney getting the advantage by lap 9. At the halfway point Kinney still held the lead with Ward, Cook, Chuck Hebing and Wickham making up the top 5.

On lap 18 Ward would use a power move in lapped traffic to get the top spot away going into turn 1. Kinney would try to get by but made contact with a lapped car sending him up and over in turn 2 bringing out the red. Kinney was taken in the ambulance for observations but ok. Green would return to the field as Ward would hang on to the top spot with Hebing, Wickham, Cook and Lance Yonge making up the top 5. Despite a late race charge by "The Cobra" Chuck Hebing, Ward would not be denied as he picked up the win with Hebing, Yonge, Wickham, and Jeff Cook rounding out the top 5.

Round 1 of the Go Nuclear Late Model Series opener got underway with Tim Sears Jr. and Dale Caswell leading the field down to the green with Caswell grabbing the top spot heading into turn 1. Caswell and Sears put on the show for the fans battling back and forth for the lead with Phil Potts, Greg Belyea and Sean Beardsley giving chase. The only red flag on the night would come out when Rob Mason flipped in turn 2 on lap 6, he was uninjured. On the restart Caswell continued to hold onto the top spot as Belyea started to make his way forward. He grabbed the 3rd spot from fellow Brighton Speedway regular Phil Potts and set his sights on the top 2 drivers. On lap 10 the caution would come out for another Brighton regular Mat Vanderlinden who spun in turn 4. The next restart saw Sears get the advantage going into turn 1 but with a great drive on the top side Caswell was able to hold him at bay until lap 12 when Kyle Sopaz spun in turn 3. On the final restart Caswell jumped out to a solid lead as just behind them Sears and Belyea were running hard for 2nd and 3rd. The 2 drivers exchange the 2nd spot several times until Belyea got the advantage with 10 to go. Caswell was on cruise control but Belyea was closing through lapped traffic. Belyea would make it close but Dale Caswell hung on for his first ever GO Nuclear Late Model Series win with Belyea, Sears, Potts and AJ Kingsley rounding out the top 5.

Race #2 of the Frenchie's "Chevy Runs Deep" 358 Modified series kicked off in fine style. Billy Dunn and Brandon Sweet brought the 24 car field to the green with Dunn getting the top spot with Sweet, Matt Billings, Chris Raabe and Laurent Ladouceur making up the top 5 early. Several cautions plagued the 50 lap affair early on but Dunn was able to hold the top spot with Raabe Billings Roy Tarbell and Luke Whitteker giving chase. On lap 18 the complexion of the race would change as Raabe would grab the top spot from Dunn going into turn 4 bringing Tarbell and Billings with him into 2nd and 3rd. Billy Dunn would slow a lap later with a right rear flat bringing out the yellow. He would go pit side and make a charge to the front of the field. The green came back out as Raabe continued to hold the top spot but Matt Billings was playing the patience game. The top 2 worked into lapped traffic and made some nifty moves with Ladouceur Brian McDonald and Danny O'Brien rounding out the top 5. On lap 35 Billings made the move that counted on the bottom side of the speedway as he powered by Raabe in turn 4 to grab the lead for the first time. By this time Billy Dunn had motored into the top 5 and was closing rapidly as the leader Billings as he worked his way through traffic. With 2 laps to go Billings used a lap car of Delbert Legrow as a pick to hold off Dunn the rest of the way for his first ever Mohawk feature win with Dunn, Raabe, Ladouceur and Roy Tarbell rounding out the top 5.

In the Sportsman division Thunder Anderson Jr and Mike Stacey brought the field of 22 starters to the green flag with Anderson jumping out to the early lead. Anderson would lead the opening 4 laps until Dan Jalbert who started 4th was Able to take the number 1 spot away with Louie Jackson Jr., Dylan Sallows and Dana Aikens rounding out the top 5. A pair of cautions came out on lap 6 first for last weeks winner Adam Rozon who broke a front end then for a muti car accident involving early race leader Anderson and Mike Arquiett. Both cars were done for the night. On the restart Jackson was able to take over the lead until Dylan Evoy who started 14th was able to grab the lead away by lap 8 and open up a commanding lead. Evoy would set a torrid pace until lap 12 when Brian Copp went off turn 1. On the final restart Evoy was able to hold off Jackson for the final 7 circuts to claim his 4th win of the season with Dillon Sallows Dana Aikens and Jessica Power rounding out the top 5.

In the Bandit feature Stuart Mossow was looking to keep his hot streak alive as he started from the 3rd spot in the 12 lap affair. He grabbed the top spot early on.

Just behind him Darryl Mitchell and Justin Desrosiers and 2 time winner Mathieu Aubin were having a great battle for the top 5 positions. But Mossow on this night would go unchallenged the entire distance to record another dominant win for the 2nd straight week with Mitchell, Desrosiers, Aubin and Darryl Mainville rounding out the top 5.

The Mod Lite feature was a great battle down to the wire as well. Sylvain Laframboise was looking for his first Mohawk feature win as he led the opening 4 laps but the man on the move was Scott Waldorff. Waldorff started in the 4th spot and was able to grab the lead with Mathieu Robinson and Dean Pronovost giving chase. Despite a last lap charge by Robinson it wouldn't be enough as Waldorff would hold him off to record career win #1 in Mod Lite action. Pronovost was 3rd followed by Bryan Green and Sylvain Laframboise.

Next week round #2 of the Frenchie's Ford "Drive One" Sportsman series gets underway. Along with a regular card of Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Bandits and Mod Lites.

The green flag drops at 7:45pm.
