MASSENA — A Massena man was killed Tuesday evening after his 2014 Jeep Wrangler crashed into a portion of the Eisenhower Lock concrete wall tunnel on Barnhart Isle Road, according to state police.
Troopers said Christopher D. Sweet, 39, was driving north shortly before 6 p.m. when his vehicle ran off the west shoulder of the road and struck the concrete tunnel.
Sweet was ejected from the vehicle, police said.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by St. Lawrence County Coroner James Sienkiewycz.
Sienkiewycz authorized the removal of the body to Massena Memorial Hospital where an autopsy will be performed at a later time, troopers said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
