MASSENA -- After about a year of not running at full capacity due to reduced staffing levels, the North Country Veterans’ Clinic at Massena Memorial Hospital will be kicking back into high gear on Monday.
The hospital had hired three new physician’s assistants to work the clinic, but two of them were waiting for months for identification badges and computer access codes from the regional Veterans’ Administration headquarters in Syracuse.
In the meantime, North Country Veterans’ Clinic Advisory Committee member John Lambert said, veterans were being sent to the main VA hospital in Syracuse for routine treatments such as basic bloodwork and prescription refills.
The Massena clinic treats about 2,000 veterans each month.
