MASSENA – The 36th annual Heritage Festival returns this year to downtown with a parade, carnival rides and games, clown shows and around 70 vendors June 5-6.

The theme for the event, hosted by the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce, is “Hometown Heroes.”

“We wanted to honor anyone who is a hero to someone,” said Denise Furnace, office manager at the chamber.

Events on Friday at the Massena Arena will run from 4 to 8 p.m.

The parade will be held Friday, June 5, beginning at 6 p.m. Expected participants include high school bands, fire departments, Cubby T. Clown, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Massena Nursery School, Massena Boys and Girls Club, local sports teams, Miss Massena and more.

Parade participants will line up at the corner of Water and Glenn streets at 5:30 p.m. with the parade slated to being at 9 a.m. The parade will proceed from Water Street to Main Street south to Bowers Street, left to Grove Street, before turning right into the Harte Haven Shopping Center and the Massena Arena.

“We will honor firemen, sports teams who won state championships this year and any other sports teams…because there is someone looking up to those athletes and their participation helps the community,” she said.

The festival will offer a variety of rides, games, good and numerous vendor booths at the Massena Arena following the parade and all day Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The carnival will also include bounce houses for children.

“We will have over 70 vendor booths with everything from businesses to crafters,” she said.

The chamber recently received a Farmers Market license and is now able to host wine vendors. Wine vendors can contact the chamber for vendors space at 769-3535.

Cubby T. Clown will host two shows during the festival. The show will entertain young and old Friday at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.

Admission is $3 for one day or $5 for both and children are admitted for free.

The festival serves as a major fundraiser for the chamber each year.
