MASSENA -- The Massena Town Council will not restore funding to Meals on Wheels that was slashed as part of the 2013 budget.
Town Supervisor Joseph Gray read a letter aloud at the board’s Wednesday night meeting where the group asked for $1,900 to offset the food cost for 100 people.
The town had given $10,000 in 2012 which was cut to $8,100 in 2013.
“We’d be now approving overspending that budget,” Councilman John Macaulay said.
“At some point private organizations, no matter how reliable, can’t rely on taxpayer money,” Gray said.
