MASSENA -- Voters in the Massena Central School District will probably not be voting on the district's next large-scale capital project until December 2019, school board officials said at their Thursday meeting.
Leading up to that, Superintendent Pat Brady said they are planning to start seeking bids from architects by Oct. 1 and he is looking at asking the board to hire one in December.
Brady said the firm they pick will be paid through a "pre-referendum agreement" to start the earliest stages of work, which would be "more preliminary scope than detailed design."
If the vote passes next year, the firm would begin work. If it doesn't pass, that's all that would get done.
A building condition survey completed as part of their study of possible district reconfiguration found $94 million worth of work that could be done in all of the buildings, including the high school and junior high, central administration and the elementary schools.
Brady has previously stated that it is not all necessary, but some of it, such as roofing, security upgrades, HVAC improvements and fieldwork, do need to be done.
