Updated 3:11 p.m. May 22 to further explain tax rates
MASSENA -- Village sales tax receipts have gone up slightly and the tax rate for 2017-18 has been finalized, according to a report at Tuesday’s village board meeting.
Treasurer Julie Sharlow told the board the village for the last quarter received from the county $429,244. That compares to $393,154 for the same quarter last year. Year-to-date, the village has received $1,302,927, compared to $1,282,467 for the same period last year. That’s a 1.6 percent increase, Sharlow said.
Projecting through the fourth quarter, she estimates the village will receive $1,745,823 for the fiscal year, compared to a budgeted amount of $1,644,450.
Shallow said the tax rate has been set.
The rate will be $15.68 for the Village of Massena, $17.81 for West Massena and $19.11 for the portion of the village in the Town of Norfolk.
Those dollar figures are per $1,000 of assessed value. A $50,000 home in the Village of Massena proper would be taxed $784, if in West Massena the tax bill it would be taxed $890.50 and if in Norfolk, the bill would be $955.50.
