MASSENA -- The village board is looking to again fill a firefighter position they had voted to hire earlier in April.
On Tuesday, following a nearly 20-minute executive session, the board agreed to table until their first May meeting a discussion to fill a firefighter/fire driver position.
“We’re going to table this until the next meeting, so we’ve got some more information on it,” Mayor Tim Currier said.
The closed-door talk included Massena Fire Department Foreman Ken McGowan. Partway through, Currier returned to the board room and called Massena Permanent Firefighters President Walter Bean into the executive session “to give [him] an update of where we’re at.”
Mayor Tim Currier declined to give specifics about why they are again looking to fill the position two weeks after filling it.
“At this point, it’s a pending personnel issue, so I can’t comment on it,” he said.
On April 5, the board voted to hire Chad Lacey to the post.
Currier said Lacey never worked.
The mayor also said there is no legal action tied to this.
