MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on February 4 prior to voting to override the state-mandated two-percent tax cap. They don’t know if they will actually need to go over 2 percent, the board wants it there in case its necessary, Village Treasurer Julie Sharlow said.
The board is legally required to hold the public hearing before going over the cap.
Mayor James Hidy has sent a memo to all village departments requesting that they make budget estimates for the 2014-15 year by February 3.
