Massena village board eyes $75k repair at fire station

MASSENA -- Although they didn’t take any official action, the village board is eyeing $75,000 in repairs to the fire station garage bay floor.

Because of structural failure, the Massena Fire Department is keeping four of its six trucks in the garage, one outside the garage and the remaining one at the Department of Public Works.

The Fire Committee presented the board with five repair options. They said the best fix would be to expand the new portion of the garage toward Andrews Street and double stack the vehicles. It comes with a $786,000 price tag.

“I can’t see us at this point spending three-quarters of a million dollars,” Trustee Tim Ahlfeld said.

The board seemed to agree that the best thing to do now is spend $75,000 to simply stabilize the damage.

Fire Chief Ted Krywanczyk said the department has had to change its response protocol around the structural issues.
