MASSENA -- The village may halt demolition proceedings at 204 East Orvis St. after the property owner appeared before the Board of Trustees on Tuesday and claimed he is going to fix it.
Christopher Tyler said he has a trial in Canton in February, which caused some confusion among the board members.
“I’m a little bit confused because we went to Supreme Court and we have a decision from Judge (David) Demarest allowing us to proceed on the property,” Mayor Tim Currier said. “We’re to the point where we’re considering demolition.
“I’d be happy to meet and talk with you … if you have a plan in place to remediate that property, that’s good … you’re coming in essentially at the 11th hour jumbling that for us.”
Public Works Superintendent Hassan Fayad said he was waiting to hear back from contractors on demolition proposals.
Tyler’s property burned in a fire in 2012.
He said he is suing his insurance company, New York Central Mutual, because they offered to cover $35,000 of what he believes is $185,000 in damages.
“That’s not anywheres near to adequate,” Tyler told the board.
