MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees on Tuesday issued a proclamation congratulating the Massena Lady Red Raiders on their 2014-2015 state championship.

Mayor Timmy Currier said a few word congratulating the squadron, and also gave them kudos for their academic achievements.

“You’re the epitome of what we mean by student-athletes and they should be congratulated for that,” he said, pointing to their combined 96 average and designation as a state Scholar Athlete Team.

Currier also expressed gratitude to the team’s parents and the Massena community for supporting the team.

“I recognize the great sacrifices you have made … not just the girls, but the parents,” Currier said.

“It was an amazing experience and we couldn’t have done it without all of you,” Massena Coach Jennifer Grey said.

The team clinched their first-ever state crown over the Kenmore East Bulldogs 3-0 in Buffalo.

They finished the regular season with a 10-8 record before going undefeated in post-season play.

The team includes Bailey Dillabough, KC Herne, Shaunessy LaClair, Kyrsten Stone, Bailey Thomas, Molly O’Connell, Abbey Paduano, Iakohehiio Cook, Ellen Green, Maddy Mailhot, Mia Jermano, Brittany Streeter, Kahsenniiostha Jacobs, Mikenna Merry, Abbie Paquin, Emily Wilmshurst, Maddi Dillabough, Ellexia Lazore, Rachel Hurlbut, Amber Thomas, Logan Deshaies, Raechel Davis and Camryn Peets.

Coaches are Grey and assistant coaches Greg Paquin and Taylor Zappia.

The team managers are Tim Belile and Gisele Todd.
