MASSENA -- The Massena village board gave a proclamation honoring Massena Central wrestler Nolan Terrance on Tuesday, March 17.
Terrance claimed the NYSPHSAA title in the 285-pound class, the Massena program’s first.
“You’ve made Massena Central proud, you’ve made this community proud … no doubt you’ve made the community of Akwesasne proud,” Mayor Tim Currier said.
Terrance was unavailable for an interview following the board meeting. He was talking to Pee Wee wrestlers at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club and practicing to wrestle in the Canadian Nationals in St. Catherine, Ontario the following day.
Massena wrestling Coach Scott Perrine said Terrance is a sportsman who continuously improved throughout his five years wrestling as a Red Raider.
“He’s a really good sportsman, a good role model to his “He started to excel, got better and better each year.”
“You’ve given it your all, you’ve achieved a goal and you’ve achieved success,” Currier said.
On his way to the state championship, Terrance beat Irondequoit’s Cameron Rohr in the semi-final round 1-0. The title bout saw him beat Edwin Rubio in double overtime.
He ended his high school career with 104 wins.
