MASSENA -- The village board approved a motion asking the governor, Assembly and Senate to pass a law making it easier for municipalities to enforce local laws on “zombie properties.”
The Abandoned Property Neighborhood Relief Act would require banks or lenders to bring properties in foreclosure up to code, Mayor Tim Currier said.
“No one’s responsible for the property at that time,” he said, noting they can skirt local laws requiring the properties be secured and maintained until they are officially foreclosed.
