MASSENA -- The village board on Tuesday okayed the Massena Police Department hiring a new patrolman, which will allow the chief to promote a current officer to drug investigator.
The board voted 4-0 to hire Marc Plante as a patrolman.
He passed the Sullivan Law Enforcement Academy in Canton in 2015. He lives in the Village of Massena and is now working for the Norwood Police Department, Massena police Chief Adam Love told the board.
The position will cost a total of $37,000, including salary and benefits, as covered in a collective bargaining agreement, officials said.
Love said with Plante's hiring, he will promote an officer to investigator. He now has two investigators, and the third will be solely dedicated to probing drug crimes.
The chief said he plans to release the name "in the very near future."
