MASSENA -- The village board on Sept. 5 voted to approve two hires.
Nikki Debien started as a new DPW clerk Sept. 6 at a rate of $15.37 per hour.
She is transferring from the Joint Recreation Department.
The job is provisional, pending her passing the civil service test in February.
The board also voted to hire Leigha Burkhalter as part-time temporary zombie program clerk.
She will be paid $12 per hour for 20 hours per week, which Mayor Tim Currier said is entirely grant funded.
Her job will be to help run the village’s zombie property program.
Zombie properties are properties owned by a bank and going through foreclosure but because of legal loopholes, the financial entities are able to skirt local building and maintenance codes.
