Massena trustees vote to take over maintenance at Spring Park fishing dock

MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees voted 3-0 to establish public access and perform basic maintenance at the Spring Park fishing dock. Trustee Tim Ahlfeld was excused from the meeting because of work obligations.

Mayor Tim Currier says the village’s maintenance obligation is mostly in-kind services. It includes taking the dock out in the fall and putting it back in the spring, mowing the grass, maintaining parking and general site housekeeping.

Alcoa also has obligations, including repairing and replacing the dock, signage, rope barriers and pavement.

Alcoa installed the dock and made improvements at the park and four other areas pursuant to state laws issued in response to a state Natural Resource Damage Complaint filed against the company, the resolution passed Tuesday says.

“We are thankful to Alcoa for improving the Springs Park,” Currier said. “I hope people who have not already taken advantage of the enhancements will consider it this summer.”
