MASSENA -- After a suggestion from the supervisor that they stop, the town will continue to charge the Town of Louisville $7,000 per year for service from the Massena Rescue Squad.
Town Supervisor Joseph Gray said they receive revenues from each call they send to Louisville, so they may not need to continue charging the annual fee.
“If we are getting revenue from calls out there … why are we charging them for anything? The $7,000 isn’t going to make or break our budget, or the rescue squad’s budget, so why charge them anything?” he said.
Councilman Albert Nicola said they don’t know exactly what they bring in from the per-call payments.
“I have a problem with that. Years ago, we used to have an ambulance out there … and we had their firemen assist the town of Massena,” said Councilman Tom Miller, a former Massena fire chief. “We’ve got to try to work together. I don’t think $7,000 is a lot. He (Louisville fire chief) didn’t think it was a lot. I don’t see an issue with keeping it.
“I don’t either,” Councilman Steve O’Shaughnessy said.
“I’m not saying increase it, I think we should leave it at [$7,000],” Miller said.
