Massena Town Hall closes main entrance as $350,000 construction project continues

MASSENA – The main entrance to the Massena Town Hall will be closed for at least two weeks as the building undergoes a $350,000 renovation.

Supervisor Joe Gray said the Main Street entrance to the Massena Town Hall is closed for the next two to three weeks as the repairs to the town hall façade continue.

He said the public can access the town hall from the rear entrance off the Andrews Street parking lot. Enter the town hall via the police station entrance and take the elevator up to the first floor to access the Village of Massena and Town of Massena offices, or to the second floor to access the town and village court, public meeting rooms or the New York State Department of Veterans Affairs office.

There is also a stairwell to the right of the Police Station entrance, which can also be used to reach the upper floors of the town hall.

As always, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this much-needed repair and restoration work.

A portion of the project’s cost will be offset from a $75,000 grant and a $75,000 loan from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment agency. The project includes repairs and renovations to the façade, stairs and parking lot at the town hall.

Gray said extensive interior renovation was completed 12 years ago, along with some cosmetic improvements to one exterior wall, but the front façade of the town hall was secure and intact at that time. Since then, the façade has deteriorated and pieces of mortar have started breaking loose and falling to the ground.

The project is expected to be completed before fall.
