MASSENA -- Massena Town Supervisor Joe Gray is hopeful that the town board will be able to decide whether to build a new highway garage or renovate the existing structure on South Raquette Road.
“The building we have is an old, old building,” he said, adding that it needs a plethora of fixes including new electrical work and a roof. He noted that it is left over from the St. Lawrence Seaway construction in the late-1950s that the town acquired as surplus.
Gray said if the town acts as general contractor, preliminary estimate indicate the town save money to the tune of $500,000 if it builds anew instead of renovating. He said they are awaiting more solid estimates.
“I would hope we’re going to have enough information to make a decision [at the August board meeting],” according to Gray.
