MASSENA — The Town Council on Wednesday adopted a 2018 budget that raises the tax levy by $20,651 over last year and will increase the tax rate six cents inside the village and 10 cents outside.
The total raised by taxes will be $2,652,834, $39,111 more than last year.
The tax rate inside the village will be $4.68 per $1,000 of assessed value inside the village and $5.11 per $1,000 outside the village.
That means the owner of a $50,000 home inside the village will be billed $234 and a $100,000 home $468. Outside the village, a $50,000 property will be taxed $255.50 and a $100,000 property $511.
Fund balance spending will total $529,350.
A budget statement provided by the town shows taxable values are down $105,348 inside the village and $1,919,780 outside the village.
FIre protection is going up to $89,500, which is $7,500 more than last year.
Overall spending between the general, highway, library and capital projects funds will be $8,257,484.
The East Massena water district, Highland and Bucktown sewer district and South Main Street sewer district will cost $113,103.
The Massena Memorial Hospital budget, which is prepared by the MMH board, comes in at $56,820,912.
The Massena Electric Department budget, prepared by the MED board, totals $13,176,550.
