MASSENA -- The town board voted unanimously to allow the Massena Rescue Squad to spend up to $6,000 to buy a new motor for its inflatable boat.
The current motor is shot and needs to be replaced, according to rescue squad Board of Managers President Roger Bennett.
The money will come out of the rescue squad’s allocation in the town budget.
The new motor is a 40-horsepower Mercury jet motor.
“I’m not a boat guy, but that’s a lot of money for a motor,” Councilman Al Nicola said, who later voted in favor of the spending.
Bennett assured it was a decent buy since it is a jet motor. The boat is primarily used on inland waters, such as the Grasse River, the board president noted.
