MASSENA – At special meeting today, the Massena Town Council will try to make some headway in the disintegration of the Massena Public Library Board of Trustees.
Town Supervisor Joe Gray says the first part of the meeting will be a public session, stating at 3 p.m., followed by an executive session.
Gray says action is likely after the executive session.
The library has been closed since Monday after resignations from the library board left it incapable of conducting business and an absence of any management to oversee the library staff and the library’s day-to-day operation forced the town council to shut the library.
The closure has been to give the town trustees time to reorganize the library’s administrative structure, fill the vacancies on the library board, and make arrangements for an interim library director, according to Gray. Gray said at the time he expected the closure to be brief.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and support while we work through this unprecedented circumstance,” Gray said.
Once the library board is in place and has received direction from the town council, it will assume control of the library as it has in the past, Gray said.
