The Massena Town Council will hold a public hearing on Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on a proposed local law to override the 2 percent tax cap. The meeting will be at the town hall on Main Street.
Following the hearing, the board will receive the tentative 2014 budget.
Massena Supervisor Joe Gray said the board has passed the same law for several years but has only actually gone above the 2-percent limit once.
Albany made a law in 2011 that forced municipalities to pass a local law each year they want to raise property taxes more than 2 percent.
