Massena Town Highway Department and Village Department of Public Works will begin paving soon.

Combined the municipalities hope to pave about 3.2 miles this seasons.

‘Village of Massena

The Massena Department of Public Works is looking at 1.2 miles in the village.

DPW Superintendent Hassan Fayad said they will pave Cornell Avenue from Sycamore Street to Spruce Street; Serra Lane from Highland Avenue to Westwood Drive; Beach Street from Stoughton Avenue to Washington Street; Curtis Avenue from South Street to Bayley Road; Sherwood Drive from Westwood Drive to Highland Avenue; Marie Street from Lawrence Avenue to the dead end; and Northview Drive from North Main Street to Marie Street. Crews will also rebuild the intersection of Sherwood Drive and Andrews Street, Fayad said.

He said the 1.2 mile distance is an average based on a calculation of roads being 28 feet wide. Some are slightly narrower, the DPW chief said.

They will start at the beginning of June, most likely on Cornell Avenue. They have until June of next year to finish. Toward the end of May, DPW crews were finishing up projects from the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

“We’re going to pick away at this stuff amongst other projects that come down the pipeline from the board. I need to put up a DPW storage barn and salt shed. That’s all got to be done in-house … we have to work within the raindrops as well,” Fayad said. “We would request the traveling public’s patience in the work zone and keep their eyes open in our work zones for everyone’s safety.”

Town of Massena

The Town of Massena Highway Department will pave about 2 miles of roads this summer, according to Superintendent Frank Diagostino.

They will pave the entire Horton Road, about 1.12 miles. He anticipates that will start the first full week of June and go through the end of July.

They will also pave a .8 mile section of North Raquette River Road between state routes 37 and 37C.
