Massena teacher hopes to join St. Lawrence County legislature, says drug epidemic is major concern

MASSENA -- Nicole Terminelli, the Democratic hopeful for the 14th District, says spurring economic development in downtown Massena would be focus if she is elected and wants more county focus on the area’s drug problem.

She is a Massena Central School District teacher.

She says she feels Massena is headed in the right direction and hopes that, if elected, she can help throw St. Lawrence County support behind that.

“My district is moving in the right direction in terms of economic development, by revitalizing the downtown area to attract both businesses and tourists. I will work alongside the local elected officials as well as the state officials that have made this progress, to ensure that we continue to have funding to promote economic development and support for small business,” she wrote. “I will be available to both my constituents and to local authorities to work in partnerships for progress. If the people of my district have questions and concerns, I will get those answers and address their concerns. I will work for the people!”

She did not want to weigh in on where the county should invest or cut without seeing research and speaking with county department heads.

“In order to determine whether or not investments or cuts should be made, and where, there would need to be considerable research and discussion with the department heads about their operations. I would not suggest any investments or cuts without the proper time and information to consider,” the Democratic candidate wrote. “Making an investment in one department, typically comes from a cut in another. Our job in the county legislature is to make sure all departments are able to function both fiscally and operationally.”

She says her experiences and personality traits have her prepared to represent Massena on the county board, and she hopes people get out to vote.

“Being an active participant in my community has always given me a sense of connection and purpose to those around me. I am an intelligent woman, wife, mother, and educator that is ready to use my voice to speak for the people in my community and our county. I am task oriented and research driven. We need people that can put differences and political parties aside to examine the issues and decide the best course of action for the majority of people, and I am that person. I am open-minded, listening to all options, and weighing the pros and cons before making decisions. As an educator, people and the future of our community are my business,” Terminelli wrote. “It’s up to voters to choose the candidate that best aligns with their values and choices. The most important thing is that we exercise our voice through voting. I am dedicated to any task that I take on, and put all I have into being accountable as part of a team. I listen with an open-mind and will represent my constituents’ wants and needs. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn something new and appreciate guidance from those with experience.”
