MASSENA -- The village is switching insurance for employees and retirees.

Current employees and retirees not eligible for Medicare will be covered under NYSHIP the New York State Health Insurance Program, Trustee Matt Lebire said.

Medicare-eligible employees will be covered under United Healthcare Medical Advantage.

Lebire said it has a similar co-pay structure to their old plan, but has better prescription coverage. It will also save the village $60,000 per year. That plan's enrollment will be handled by First Niagara Bank, he said.

The measure to switch plans passed 3-0-1, with Trustees Lebire, Tim Ahlfeld and Albert Deshaies voting yes. Trustee Francis Carvel abstained.
