MASSENA -- The Town Council may vote whether or not to privatize Massena Memorial Hospital in the next month, according to Town Supervisor Joseph Gray.
"We hope to have all the information we need within a month to make a decision," Gray said.
He said people from Newpoint Healthcare Advisors recently met with MMH administration, management and community members and will soon return to Massena to dig into their task.
The board is spending $12,000 per month to have the national healthcare advising firm look into MMH's financials and report their findings.
The hospital is looking at privatization in light of rising costs and dwindling reimbursements.
They reported finishing July with a $304,310 net loss, despite budgeting for a $52,104 net gain.
They will report their figures for August on Monday.
Year-to-date, MMH is looking at a $2,454,181 loss from operations. Smith has previously stated they make up the deficit by drawing from cash reserves. The MMH budget had anticipated a $429,126 net gain, year-to-date.
