Massena police charge teen with shooting rifle in village

MASSENA -- A Massena teen was charged with shooting a rifle in a residential area at 7:46 a.m. Saturday morning.

William P. Rochefort, 18, of 107 Stoughton Ave., was charged with reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and a felony, tampering with evidence.

He was arrested after village police responded to numerous reports of multiple shots fired in the village.

Police said they arrived at the scene and convinced two occupants of the residence to come outside.

Police said both males were taken into custody without incident.

An investigation and a search of the residence revealed a .22 caliber long rifle and .22 caliber shell casings that had been fired, polcie said.

A second male subject was also taken into custody at the scene was released without charges being filed.

The investigation is on-going, police said.

Massena police were assisted at the scene by state police and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
