MASSENA -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care was the recipient of the largest donation in the seven-year history of an annual charity softball tournament.

This year’s tournament, held in Massena in July, raised over $10,000 for the Breast Cancer Navigation Program at the CPH Center for Cancer Care.

The donation was accepted on behalf of the Center by the CPH Foundation, which exists to support Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

“The Navigation Program helps those diagnosed with breast cancer to understand and access options for everything from health insurance, travel to appointments, support groups, and specialist referrals,” said Jackie Green, breast cancer navigator. “A diagnosis of breast cancer can be overwhelming for a woman and her family. Having someone at their side who knows how to steer through all the options, with individualized attention, helps women feel more in control and boosts confidence for the journey ahead,” said Green.

In its seven years, the annual charity softball tournament has raised $57,670, with $33,995 dedicated to the CPH Center for Cancer Care.

The tournament was organized by Becky Good.

The CPH Center for Cancer Care provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Dr. David Hauerstock, radiation oncologist, and Dr. Velmalia Matthews-Smith, medical oncologist, lead the treatment team, which includes Dr. Howard Gold, hematologist/medical oncologist, certified oncology nurses, and certified radiation technologists.

The center is equipped with a “vault-less design” linear accelerator, a dedicated CT-scanner for treatment planning, and is supported by an Imaging Department equipped with the latest in low-dose imaging and mammography technology. The center also offers integrative treatments such as yoga, Reiki, and massage therapy.
