MASSENA -- The village board set 2018 spring cleanup dates and next month will hold a public hearing on a proposal to eliminate curbside spring pickup starting in 2019.

“This year, nothing changes,” Mayor Tim Currier said.

The hearing on the proposed change, which would start next year, will be at their April 17 meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall’s room 30, the second floor board room.

The dates for this year’s spring cleanup, which will still include curbside pickup, are April 9 to 13 north of the Grasse River and April 16 to 20 south of the Grasse River.

Guidelines for this year’s curbside pickup:

• crews will traverse a street once

• construction materials are not accepted

• television sets, computer monitors or any item that has been “cannibalized” will not be accepted. Electronics can be disposed at the Transfer Station for no charge all year.

• refuse should not be placed at curbside prior to the weekend before one’s respective pickup dates

• materials will not be taken in dark bags

• metals, tires and items containing Freon should all be placed in separate piles

• refrigerator doors need to be removed

• any remaining debris left after collection needs to be removed by the next working day per local ordinance

• textiles (shoes, clothing, fabric, lines, etc.) are now recyclable and need to be separated from cleanup items

• St. Lawrence County hazardous waste collection dates will be announced for the fall

• DPW will pick up brush at the residence
