This breaks the previous low temperature record for Feb. 24 of -15 degrees set in 2005, the NWS said.

St. Lawrence County should get a reprieve from subzero weather on Tuesday night, but that won’t last long, meteorologists predict.

All areas of St. Lawrence County are forecast at 60 percent odds to get less than a half inch of snow Tuesday night with temperatures hovering around 12 degrees and around 6 degrees in the higher elevations.

On Wednesday, although the odds drop slightly in Canton, Gouverneur and Ogdensburg, the NWS says there is a chance of less than a half inch more. Thermometers are predicted to read in the high teens.

Wednesday night is forecast to bring back temperatures below zero. Skies should be clear, but the temperature could drop to about -16 in Canton and Massena, -15 in Potsdam and -17 in Ogdensburg.
