MASSENA -- A longtime Massena school board member is in the running to represent the North Country at the New York State School Boards Association.
William Sommerfield is seeking seven nominations from the 46 school districts in NYSSBA’s area six, which according to its website covers Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, and St. Lawrence counties, including the Harrisville school district of Lewis County, and the Putnam school district of Washington County. Excluded are the Wells and Lake Pleasant school districts.
The current area six director, Esther Sherman Arlan of the Saranac Lake school board, can keep her position until December, Sommerfield said. She will be vacating an unexpired term.
Sommerfield has served on the Massena school board for about 25 years, he stated.
“After a great deal of consideration, I think I’ll take a shot at it,” he said.
