Massena school board meets new faculty, hires administrator, substitutes, grants tenure

MASSENA -- The Board of Education was introduced to new staff members on Thursday night and later appointed a new administrator, substitutes and granted tenure.

The board decided that R. Shane Halliday will be high school assistant principal effective Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2019.

They also hired Robert Zeitzman as a .6 high school social studies teacher and Tamara Lett as a two hour per day Madison Elementary cafeteria monitor.

The board also appointed Cheryl Holmes as a 3.5 hour per day motor vehicle operator, Robyn McGregor as a 4.5 hour per day motor vehicle operator and Caroline Lambert as a three hour per day bus monitor.

The trustees granted final tenure to Nightengale Elementary teacher Ashley Blanchard, Madison special education teacher Alysse Ouimet and high school special education teacher Steven Booth.

Building administrators introduced Jefferson fourth grade teacher Cassondra Barney, Jefferson long-term kindergarten substitute Courtney Blanchard, J.W. Leary Junior High long-term substitute Leigha Burkhalter, junior high school nurse Judy Gilman, Nightengale third grade teacher Brandy Henning, high school Earth science teacher William Jaggers, high school biology teacher Todd Kimble, Nightengale fourth grade teacher Katie Romeo and seventh grade science teacher Elizabeth White.

The board ratified a substitute list that includes JoAnne Davidson, Sara Johnson, Jenna Cruickshank, Diane Toth and Dane Curry. They decided on Heidi French as a long-term Jefferson Elementary substitute.

The board also named several support staff subs, including Katelyn Borey, Kimberly Berry, Karl Antwine, Scott Young, Tammy Lynn Briggs, Kimberly LaClair, Kesha French, Sandra Sharpe, Joni Bigness and Celena Gilman.

They approved a leave of absence through Oct. 16 for high school teaching assistant Karen LeCuyer and a salary adjustment for elementary teacher Jennifer Gray for completing additional coursework.

The trustees signed off on long-term Jefferson sub Kristen Kellogg’s resignation and retirements of district treasurer Angela Wood effective Sept. 18 and district nurse Carol Smith effective Oct. 30.
