MASSENA -- The Board of Education may consider adding a non-voting student representative to the board.
Trustee Paul Haggett suggested adding the member after reading what he called “a very compelling article” in the On Board newspaper, published by the New York State School Boards Association.
“We’ll take a look at it and see what shakes out,” Board President John Boyce said.
Superintendent of Schools Patrick Brady pointed out that it would require the public’s approval.
“There are state laws that govern that, it’s a very prescribed process,” Brady said.
Salmon River Central School District in Fort Covington had a student representative in 2012 for less a year. Their board no longer has the seat.
