MASSENA -- The Massena Central School District Board of Education appointed three teachers and re-appointed an administrator to her current position.
The board voted unanimously to name Evelyn Fiske director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment effective Sept. 1 at a salary of $93,940 for a term of 11 months.
The board also voted unanimously to grant Michael Draper a music teacher position at Nightengale elementary from Sept. 1 until June 30, 2016 at a salary of $37,126. Christine Winston received an 8 – 0 vote to be recalled as a guidance counselor at Nightengale effective immediately at a salary of $46,769.
The board voted 6 – 2 to recall Jonathan Lomaki as a high school foreign language teacher. He is certified in French. He will receive a $54,550 salary. Board members Kevin Peretta and Loren Fountaine voted against his appointment. They were unavailable for comment.
The board unanimously recalled two two-hour-per-day food service workers. Andrea Clark is returning to J.W. Leary Junior High at a rate of $4,477 per year; Susan Gardner is going back to Nightengale for the same pay. Both appointments are effective immediately.
The board voted 8 – 0 to accept the retirements of Sandra Cunningham, a teacher aide at Nightengale and district head groundsman Thomas Beckstead.
