MASSENA -- Village police are looking into several leads in hopes of locating an armed robber who held a knife to a cashier’s throat Saturday at the Dollar Tree store in Harte Haven Plaza, Lt. Mark LaBrake said Monday afternoon.
Police have released a surveillance video, available at http://youtu.be/_S-J3Tg_CBo, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the perpetrator. The video, which police acknowledge is “not great,” shows the suspect running behind Dunkin’ Donuts/Mountain Mart.
Police have several leads and witnesses and are “just putting everything together,” according to Investigator Jordan Jenks.
Police said a male entered the Dollar Tree and held a knife to a cashier’s throat and demanded money around 3:11 p.m. Saturday before fleeing the store with cash.
The suspect was described as a male over 6 feet tall, 170 to 190 pounds, with dark hair and scruffy, short facial hair. His face was uncovered. He was described as 20- to 25-years-old, light-skinned, with dark eyes, according to police.
He was wearing light-colored shorts, a number “10” red or burgundy colored Redskins jersey, a light tan Carhart or Dickie jacket, and a greenish colored winter skull cap, police said.
Several witnesses described a tribal tattoo on the right side of his neck. The tattoo was described as a yellow-and-black star design with a native warrior head/face in the center of the tattoo, according to police.
Videos from several local businesses are also under review by police, according to Jenks.
