MASSENA -- Village police are withholding the identity of a woman who is believed to have died of a fatal overdose, citing the family’s wishes.

“I’m not going to comment on (the identity of the deceased),” Massena police Chief Adam Love said. “The family asked that the name be left out. I want to try to respect their wishes … to me, it doesn’t change the circumstances.”

On Friday at 9:26 a.m., police were called to 90 East Hatfield St., where they found a 28-year-old female dead, according to Love.

“We believe through the investigation, we will learn that drugs are the cause of death, but we are waiting for the results,” Love said, adding that a family member called it in.

He said Dr. Samuel Livingstone performed an autopsy on the deceased that day at Massena Memorial Hospital.

“We’re waiting on the lab results,” Love said.

On Tuesday, North Country Now reached out to St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood, who responded to the scene. She declined the identify the deceased, citing village police's request to withhold the information.
