MASSENA -- Massena Police are now carrying gloves designed to protect officers from being stuck while responding to calls of improperly discarded syringes.
The department purchased them with a $200 donation from the Loyal Christian Benefit Association.
Earlier this week, Acting Chief Adam Love said his officers have fielded 35 calls of needles being found in public since Jan. 1.
“Several of our needles were located in the roadway,” Love said.
Used syringes can transmit hepatitis C and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
